Joseph Martin Kraus was born in Mittenberg am Main, Germany, on June 20, 1756. He moved to Stockholm in 1778, and spent the rest of his life in Sweden (he died on December 15, 1792, in Stockholm). Kraus is sometimes referred to as 'The Swedish Mozart'; interestingly enough, Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, and died on December 5, 1791 (there is no evidence the two ever met, although while on his Grand Tour of Europe from 1782 to 1787, Kraus was a member of the same Masonic Lodge as Mozart).
