Sonatinas (3) Op.137: No.2 in A Minor D385.
Schubert, Franz.
Edited by Hirsch.
Flute & Piano.
For: Fl-Pf.

Vienna, March-April, 1816. Franz Schubert writes his "Sonatas for pianoforte accompanied by a violin." 1816 was a particularly disappointing year for Schubert. A modest music teacher's employment in Laibach is given to "somebody else." A first book of songs sent to Goethe by his friend Spaun comes back without comment. Not even his friends asked for his sonatas, let alone publishers. His brother Ferdinand finds them among his unpublished work: "Three easy, beautiful sonatas for piano and violin." As an extra to 50 song books he sells them to Anton Diabelli who publishes the pieces in 1836, eight years after Schubert's death, under the title "Sonatinas.".
