The three pieces comprising ABRSM's first string quartet publication, and the latest in the Spectrum series, were commissioned by the London String Quartet Foundation for the London International String Quartet Competition 2008. Although the pieces have been written for Grade 8 standard, filling a gap in contemporary music repertoire at this level, they have been composed as creative works in their own right and can be included in the string quartet performance repertoire.
