String Quartet No.1.
Paganini, Niccolò.
Edited by Schumacher.
String Quartets.
For: 2Vln.Vla.Vc.

Paganini's three string quartets which are his only compositions using the classical string quartet orchestration, were presumably written between 1815 and 1818. As a part of his catalogue of chamber-music works, they belong to the very small group of works only for bowed strings, but he very much was a friend of the quartet formation. The melody is generally given only to the first violin, while the other voices divide the accompaniment among themselves. The melodies are typical of Paganini, and the difficulty level is only moderate so a larger circle of string players will have access to the music of Paganini.

Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.
