Suite from Banchetto Musicale 1617.
Schein, Johann Hermann.
Edited by Schering.
String Orchestra.
For: Str(2Va).

Score.
Johann Hermann Schein was born on January 20, 1586 in Gruenhain. He was one of the first German composers to absorb and integrate the innovations of the Italian Baroque (monody, concertato style, figured bass). This is extraordinary as, unlike his friend Heinrich Schutz (who made more than one trip to Italy), Schein seems to have spent his entire life in Germany. Also unlike Schuetz, his life was neither long nor happy (his wife died in childbirth; four of his five children did not live past infancy; he suffered from tuberculosis, gout, scurvy, and a kidney disorder). Schein died at the age of 44, on November 19, 1630.
