Johann Baptist Joseph Maximilian Reger (composer, conductor, pianist, organist, and teacher) was born in Brand, Bavaria, on March 19th, 1873. He settled in Munich in 1901, and rose rapidly to fame (during his first season, he appeared in ten concerts as organist, chamber pianist, and accompanist). From 1907 onward he also worked in Leipzig, serving as Music Director of the University from 1907 to 1908, and as Professor of Music at the Conservatory until his untimely death (he died of a heart attack during one of his weekly trips to Leipzig, on May 11th, 1916).
