Paul Desmond was born Paul Emil Breitenfeld, in San Francisco, on November 25th, 1924. In addition to leading several groups of his own, he worked extensively with Dave Brubeck, as well as Gerry Mulligan, Jim Hall, and Chet Baker. Paul Desmond succumbed to lung cancer on May 30th, 1977, following one final tour with Brubeck.
