Georg Philipp Telemann (March 14, 1681 – June 25, 1767) was a German Baroque music composer, born in Magdeburg. Self-taught in music, he studied languages and science at the University of Leipzig. The most prolific composer of his era, he was a contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach and a friend of George Frideric Handel.
The present work exists in manuscript in the Darmstadt collection of Telemanns works. Telemann himself had a great liking for the recorder and often played it. He provided it with a number of compositions based entirely on the character of the instrument, some of which afford impressive proof of Telemanns capacity as a recorder player.
