Thumpy® the Thumb Flute is a simple instrument with a natural and flexible sound. The flute is constructed out of a straight, cylindrical wooden pipe. The embouchure hole is located just outside the middle of the pipe. The interesting and amusing character encourages the player to experiment with tone, intonation, sound quality and pitch bending. Inexperienced flute players can be trained on this book before moving to the Boehm flute, and will have already been shown the different possibilities in sound extension and breathing techniques.
