Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Thorpe now makes available Vaughan Williams’ work for chorus and orchestra as a full choral score with piano reduction. Using the words of the poem “Darest thou now, O soul” from Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, Vaughan Williams composed Toward the Unknown Region in 1906. The work was first performed in October of 1907 in Leeds Town Hall as part of the Leeds Triennial Music Festival, with Vaughan Williams himself conducting. Dedicated to his sister-in-law, Toward the Unknown Region put Vaughan Williams on the map as a new and important voice in English music.
