An immensely prolific composer of entertainment music in his capacity as organist and composer at Marylebone Gardens, and later at Vauxhall Gardens, both in London, Hook wrote a lot of easy instructional pieces for the keyboard. His Twelve Sonatinas for t he Harpsichord or Piano-Forte for the use of Scholars was published about 1775.
