The Austrian flutist and composer Raphael Dressler lived from 1784 to 1835. Only 70 out of his approximately 100 flute compositions were published in his time. The new edition presented here is based on an issue from the Library of Vienna. Etienne Nicolas Méhul (1763–1817) lived in Paris and was a popular composer of operas who influenced both the French and the German Romantic period. (C.M. von Weber wrote his piano variations op. 28 on the same theme).
