Schein, Johann Hermann.
Arranged by Van Goethem, Joris.
Recorder Ensemble.
For: AATB-rec.

Dances from Banchetto Musicale (for AATB recorder quartet, originally for five instruments; score and parts) -- Volume 9 of the Flanders Quartet Series.
Johann Hermann Schein was born in Gruenheim (Germany) on January 20th, 1586. He was one of the first to incorporate early Italian stylistic innovations into German music. Schein published his "Banchetto Musicale" in 1617. He intended the collection for use at musical gatherings, as well as entertainment for banquets and dinner parties. It comprises 100 dances, organized into what we would call Suites (that term was not part of the musical parlance of Schein's day), each consisting of a Pavane/Gaillarde pair, an Allemande/Tripla pair, and a Courante. Johann Hermann Schein died in Leipzig, on November 19th, 1630.
